    POURING MELANCHOLY

you took my hills and wood out of their childhood
it was a grey and wet country, on a Saturday day
    in the one-use town
a last passer-by wounded by a melancholic knife.

    MELANCHOLY VERSANT

    DRESSED IN COLD

    a Venice smelling likes loneliness
a winter smoking, looking for shelter
in the armchair in the living room, there is
    a frozen angel
    rolling down through your word
colder and colder in your left hand
darker and darker in your right hand.

    țara mea are riduri
    o poartă copiii în bagaje
    într-o canadă melancolică
    România nu-i acasă
    sunt lacăte pe uși
    și-i întuneric până la lacrimă
are nevoie să-i faci respirație inimă la inimă
    are nevoie de chirurg
să intre în operație pe cord deschis

    MY COUNTRY

    I can see the autumn
    beyond the sun flower field
    my country is old
and the children carry it in their luggage
on their way to a melancholic canada
    Romania is not at home
    she’s under lock and key
    and dark to tears
    she needs heart-to-heart breathing
    she needs surgery
    on open heart

    MON PAYS

    PORTRAIT ON THE ROAD

fair snowing lightly by the melancholy of an angel
we’re still exporting iron wet by tears
    a kamikaze autumn
    fakir on a smile
the road passing through the spiked night
I still give my blood, for nothing, somewhere, in the history.

    on exporte encore

    A HOUSE IN THE CITY

a last horse is still swiping the dark
    from the Romanian plain
    your thoughts warming the Eskimos
    my father passes through death
Marquez is telling us about his 100 years of solitude
    a night in his shoulder
    an autumn in his leg
with the sadness in his luggage you could build a house

    SMILE RUSTLE

one day you could throw yourself
    in the words
    from both shores
you can feel the poem’s breeze
    this word fits you
    smile rustle and whispered colours

    BALADA TRENULUI

    tată ai luat un tren
    prea îndepărtat
    nici nu ai observat
că devin gările tot mai mici
    și glasul se preschimbă
    în icoană
ți-ai uitat doar numele pe cutia poștală
o iarnă îl răzuie și-l macină

    TRAIN SONG

father you went by a train
    too far away
    you haven’t noticed
that railway stations are smaller and smaller
    that its voice is changing
    into an icon
you’ve just left your name on a mail-box
    a winter is scratching
    and crumbling it

    ceaiul chinezesc&

    MY NAME

    it’s getting cold
    on my name
    I’m covering my children
    with a vowel
    the night is limping
when a star is dying on my shoulder
Chinese tea is the only one
that remains from the whole late autumn

    MON NOM

e prima duminică a lumii dintâi

    MY FIRST WORLD

    a deep icon
    an indefinite night
when spring is penetrating your bone
    like a brass spider
a crystal wolf is roaring in the labyrinth
    like a medical sentence
it’s the first Sunday on my first world

    MON PREMIER MONDE

    une icône profonde
    une soirée interminable
lorsque le printemps pénètre dans les os
    comme une araignée de cuivre
on entend hurler un loup de cristal
dans le labyrinthe comme une sentence médicale
    c'est la premier dimanche
    de mon premier monde&

    ÎNTÂMPLARE

    o inimă tăcea frumos
ca un ziar de la poluri
    pe un țărm de alpaca
    se întâmpla într-o seară
    un cuvânt al mamei&

    HAPPENING

    a heart was nicely silent
    like a newspaper from poles
    on a shore of trees
this was happing in a night
    on my mother’s word

    L'EVENEMENT

    POEM ON OPEN HEART

I made an agreement with the Sunday inside
    Christmas starts in my childhood
when I was writing straight on the shadow
    straight on eternity
it was too much for only one death
it was a poem on open heart.

    THE ANGEL’S WORD

a smoking slowly winter is winding
on my armchair in the living-room
    I put my solitude
on the edge of my heart
and, then, I try my shoes
to see if they match to my sadness
the poet lies the eternity at the corner of the street
and I cover my fear with an autumn.

    mirosea a singurãtate
    prin visul tãu trecãtorii
fãceau trafic cu muzicã de fanfarã
    fericirea sãlbãticitã umblã pe sârmã
    atârnã pe pielea vecinului&

    SUNDAYS

    Sunday in a wet land
    dreams circus
and your shadow bitten by a dog
    was smelling like solitude
    through its dream, passers-by
    were selling the fanfare music
and wild happiness was walking on a wire
and hanging on my neighbour’s skin.

    ningeau peste mansarde
i se înfigea toamna în piept
    pânã-n plãsele
    singurãtatea intra pe geam
    făcea piruete
    țipãtul cădea în genunchi
    își înmuia degetele în melancolie
    cunoscuții îmbătrâneau
    într-o scrisoare
poetul cu palma căuș nu lăsa cuvântul
    să se stingă

    LOVE SMELLING LIKE SOLITUDE

    it was half Sunday
    and half sadness
    an angel’s dark rings
    were snowing over houses.
    autumn was cutting
    his chest, deeply cutting it
and solitude was entering through windows,
    dancing.
and the scream was on its knees
soaking its finger deep in melancholy
    people around getting older
the poet with his hand gathered,
    in a letter,
    didn’t let the word die.

    AMOUR SENTIR COMME LA SOLITUDE

    c'était moitié dimanche
    moitié tristesse
    il neigeait par-dessus des maisons
    avec des cernes d'un ange
    l'automne s'enfonçait dans sa poitrine
la solitude entrait par la fenêtre
    dansait son cri était s'agenouillait
    trempant les doigts dans la
mélancolie les amis vieillissaient dans une lettre
le poète avec sa main en auget
ne laissa point le mot s'éteindre.

    VECINII TOAMNEI

    AUTUMN’S BORDERS

an angel dressed in cold was rolling down
    along your words
and I was mixing a fresh slice of Sunday
my neighbours were cleaning the attic
    and were looking the dawn
locking off the autumn in the living room
    then,
    in silence,
    a whole galaxy was dying
and death was drying through darkness

    cealaltã a strãzii&

    HOW OUR DEATH PASSES AWAY

today, I went till the end of my childhood
    and never went so far
    on Carmel Mount
Saturday is coming in showers to town
at Santiago, the evening comes to death
    the butcher beheads the clown
and his blood tastes like unfinished holiday
and they threw his smile on
the other side of the street.

    COMMENT NOTRE MORT PASSE LOIN

    AUTOBIOGRAFIE

    la privirea ta dintâi
    toamna se retrage în cazarmã
    se întristeazã cerceveaua
numai toamna te ia râul si te duce
    dincolo de fereastra îmbolnãvitã
într-o țarã largã cât o tristețe
    vecinul se trezește din viațã
    într-un anotimp de urgențã
    dintr-o orã intraductibilã&

    AUTOBIOGRAPHY

    when you first look
autumn takes back into its barrack
    and the window gets sad
and only on autumn, the river takes and carries you
    beyond the sick window
in a country so deep as my sorrow
the neighbour is getting to life
    in an emergency season
from an hour that can’t be expressed into words

    L'AUTOBIOGRAPHIE

    NAME’S HAUNTING

    winter is getting green
    where your name was written
    withered times
    with autumn sick and tired
and the lake coloured as the solitude
and the autumn taught to kill melancholy
and the seconds in the graveyard getting cleaner and cleaner
and it’s raining until you can’t understand the foggy words.

    on nettoie les secondes
    dans le cimetière
il pleut jusque les mots deviennent
    brumeux.

    RĂSĂRIT

se lasă toamna pe palma ta stângă
    se înserează pe mâna dreaptă
    răsăritul șiroia pe mielul speriat
    și te recunoșteam
    după inima lustruită de singurătate
undeva in estul iernii se năștea o casă

    SUNRISE

autumn is lying on your left hand
and getting darker on your right hand
and sunset dropping on the scared lamb
and i had the felling i’ve met you before
when i saw your soul polished by solitude
somewhere in the eastern winter, a house was born
and winter was walking through vowels
    stocked with melancholy
and darkness sails through the poem
    and cold soul is floating
    and its bridges divide
    the own into two
and your sick sight is twinning on passers-by neck.

îți vine sã-i dai numele tãu
    unei toamne târzii
    dintr-o melancolie torențialã
când scrii cu viața pe ziduri
    un poem
    înflorește fabrica de vanilie
    se agațã o perlã
    de tibia singurãtãții
    se întristeazã
    trenurile de navetiști&

    ON MELANCHOLY’S KNEES

    memories painter
    near a trained statue
you feel like giving your name
    to a late autumn
    in a pouring melancholy
when you write on the walls with you’re your life
    a poem
that makes the vanilla factory revive
and a pearl is hanging on
    the solitude’s feet
and the slow train with commuters
    are getting sad

    ANOTIMPUL SECRET

    cuvântul însereazã peste casa ta
    e atât de primãvarã
o ranã tandrã în dreptul inimii
    și sângele dã ora exactã
    se întristeazã cartea de gramaticã
    e ger pe sânul tãu
    ziua de luni arginteazã
    spaima trecãtorilor
    și strigãtul perforeazã cutia poștalã&

    SECRET SEASON

the word is darkening over your house
    and it’s so spring
a tender wound on your heart
    and blood shows the time
    grammar book is getting sad
and it’s cold on your chest
and Monday getting golden and golden
    and passers-by’s scream and fear
    punching the mail-box

    LA SAISON SECRÈT

le mot fait venir la soirée
    sur ta maison
    il fait tellement printemps
    une blessure tendre
    au cœur
    le sang montrant l'heure exacte
    le livre de grammaire s'attriste
    il gèle sur ton sein
le jour de lundi argente l'effroi
et cri perfore la boîte à lettres&

    LANUL DE FLOAREA SOARELUI

se ascunde o toamnã între coperțile basmului
    nu-mi mai întâlnesc vecinii
    ei sunt ocupați cu viața
    cu toamna cu poezia
    bezna hohotește prin fereastrã
    ziua de vineri se desprinde
    dintr-o iarnã
    și calc pe ultima silabã
    când prin ochiul tãu adorm
    popoare migratoare

    SUN FLOWER FIELD

autumn is hidding between the fairy tales
and I can’t meet my neighbours
because they are so busy with their lives
    with autumn, with poetry
    dark was laughing through windows
    Friday taking off
    from winter
and I crush a final syllabus
    when migratory people
    are sleeping through your eyes.

LE CHAMP DE FLEUR DE SOLEIL

    un automne se cache
entre les couvertures du conte de fée
je ne rencontre plus mes voisins
ils sont occupés avec leurs vies
    avec l'automne avec la poésie
    l'obscurité rit dans la fenêtre
un vendredi déchiré de d'un hiver
je fait écraser le dernier syllabe
    lorsqu'on s'endorment dans ton œil
    les peuples migratoirers

    ORAȘUL DE UNICĂ FOLOSINȚĂ

    într-un spital de provincie
    spaima dezgolitã la ecograf
poemul decojit pânã la vena cavã
    prin nãmeți de singurãtate
    utilaje albastre deslãcrimeazã orașul
    se înghesuie Polul Nord
    în ziarele din provincie
    ne externãm cu teama amelioratã

    SINGLE USE CITY

in a small country provincial hospital
    you can find
    fear revealed by supreme surgery
poem revealed to its vena cava
    through huge amounts of solitude
blue machinery revealing the huge city
    and small country provincial newspapers
    are crowded to North Pole
    we get out less feared.

    ridurile istoriei
    furtuna amanetatã
    și geografia tristeții

    THE STREET’S LANDSCAPE

November rain is coming into your bones
when you’re looking at the street
from the 5th flat of your solitude
    the melancholy shop
    and the dream’s owner
and the cold crawling over walls
but you find the pub, in the same place
    the drop from your tears
    the history’s furrows
    the sold storm

    LE PAYSAGE DE LA RUE

    le novembre touche tes os
quand on regarde la rue du cinquième
    étage de la solitude
le magasin qui vend des nostalgies
    et le propriétaire des illusions
le froid rampe le long des murs
    on retrouve le café
    l'anguille dans la larme
    les rides de l'histoire
    l'orage mis en gage
et la géographie de la tristesse.

    PROPRIETARUL PREDICATELOR

    se face toamnă într-un ziar
    de provincie
    anotimpul trece strada
    sunt într-un tren
    și locomotiva împinge
    orașul dincolo de ploaie&

    THE VERBS OWNER

    it’s getting autumn in newspapers
    in a small village.
the season is crossing the street
    but I’m in a train
    and the engine is pulling
    the town beyond the rain.

    CHRYSANTHEMUM STEAM

    on the filled autumn
the magic of the 8th flat
    on the Energy Street
    the time is crawling on
the statue’s face in the railway station park
in the evenings when Petru Dumitriu’s Davida girl
    is coming.

    THE PARK’S DESTINY

    a scarf is hanging sadly
on a corner of a larder
a letter coming from Altai Mounts
    brings me a long winter
    at the north
    and at the south
    of my soul.

    LA DESTINEE DU PARC

    une écharpe pend tristement
    au coin d'un débarras
    une lettre apportée des montagnes
d'Altai amène un long hiver au nord
et au sud de mon âme.

    SECUNDA CLOVNULUI

picături de ger i-au gãurit copilãria
    atârnate pe sârmă la uscat
    nostalgia clovnului
    și secunda șampanizatã
    întunericul fojgăind pe vitrine

    THE CLOWN’S MINUTE

drops of frost holed his childhood
    and the clown’s wish fullness
    and his bubbled minutes
are hanging on a rope, waiting for the wind
and for the sun to dry them
but the dark is falling down over.

    AUTUMN FEELINGS

winter is running under your feet
evening is wondering through your lungs
    sad feelings,
enough for the whole world, is starting
    from Lahovari Square
you are waving me your dim hands
and I step on the other side of the season.

    SENSATIONS D'AUTOMNE

    PORTRET

pe inima limpede un șal de cașmir
ochii bunicului se umplu de iarnã
    trecãtorii admirã rãsãritul de mileniu
la fereastra ta se tocește primãvara

    PORTRAIT

on my clear core a cashmere shawl
my grandfather’s eyes feeling with winter
    passers-by admiring the millennium’s sunset
and at your window spring is coming

    PORTRAIT

    SPARE NIGHT

it’s night on my shoulder and autumn in my knee
you bring so much sadness in your luggage
and you could build a house on Sargase Sea
or you could build an empire
    with grieved bricks.

    NUIT DISPONIBLE

    IT HAPPENED

    no autumn comes here
in that city whipped of the indifference
    of the people
and the destiny re-invested in nights with seferis and Kavafis
and only a mouse and an owl cutting the grey in the attic.

    CLEAR PROFIT ON DESTINY

    I unbutton the dark
you break the light in the window
a city made up of silence
    silvered with solitude
you take your pills of night and fear.

    FLASHLIGHT

    your vena cava flashes
a storm behind through my screen soul
the stone that encourages your solitude gets darker
Marquez tells you about the 100 years of ash
when a mole is eating the night from your hand.

    L'ECLAIR

    votre veine cave clignote orage

    OPIU

    vecinii își spuneau
    bunã ziua
    bunã moartea
    e toamnã
    printre ridurile îngerului
    moartea se învațã din copilãrie
la mansardã o mânã întoarce orașul
    pe partea cu singurãtate

    OPIUM

    the neighbours were saying
    good morning
    good night
    it’s autumn
    through the angel’s wrinkles
death has been taught since childhood
    at the attic
a hand is turning round the city on
    its solitary side.

    OPIUM

    les voisins disaient
    bonne nuit
    bonne mort
    c'est l'automne
    par les rides de l'ange
la mort est enseignée de l'enfance
au grenier une main tourne la ville
sur la côté de la solitude. &

    WHIRLWIND

a boat on that side with whirlwind of the words
    an autumn of huge amplitude
    the armchair in the fair
are shinning when you reach an angel’s melancholy.

    THE MANDRAGORA DROP

fear is laying on the sofa
town is leaving on the tramway rails
it is laying over the snow flakes
    and a last mountain rescuer
    rescues us from
    self-slaughtering winter.

    d'individu-abattage.

    OROLOGIU

    bãtea de miezul verii
când mi-ați întors tinerețea pe toate pãrțile
mi se înnora Olanda din privire
    stãteam în bãtaia vieții
și m-atingea o schijã de singurãtate
tatã eu am fãcut tot ce-am vrut
    cu moartea mea

    THE CLOCK

    when you twisted my youth
it was in the middle of the summer
and Holland in my eyes was getting cloudy
and I was standing in the middle of life
    with a shadow of solitude
father, I did everything I wanted
    with my death.

    L'HOROLOGE

    IUBITA MEA CU PICIORUL TRIST

    MY SWEETHEART WITH SAD LEG

    with the name lost
    with the name tired
with the winter on your steps
we are melting the snow with your eyes
the name where there was no place for both of us
we were happy because of the death left
the evening lying on my body
and thorned autumn around my home

    THE SCALE

    it’s autumn till my ankle
    till my knees
    till my waist
    and it stopped.
and it didn’t know the right time
    till the next chrysanthemum
the season with jasmine smelling was crushing the word in my doorway
    a lonely beggar
    twisting the winter inside
    and Sundays in small parts
    and they broke the sky
    from my father’s eye.

and only sadness sliding on his throat
hopeless tea softened in your scream
a velvet heaven near the tumultuous stove
the cigarette’s smoke covering the season

    CRIE

    mon père comme l’automne
seulement la tristesse glissant sur ton gorge
la tisane désespérée dans ton cri

et la cigarette fumée couvre la saison

    PĂSĂRI DE TABLĂ

    rãzboiul de 100 de ani

    TIN BIRDS

    ORA EXACTĂ

    gările au părăsit orașul

    DIMINEAȚĂ FIERBINTE

    o ușă îmbolnăvită
pe pereți se prelinge un frig obosit

    poemul singur prin balcoanele fardate
    și mansardele târzii

    HOT MORNING

    EPISOD

din nord și acum te încearcă
    o zăpadă tandră

    pe un gazon trist

    EPISODE

at the end of my poem
    a tender snow

    our final life
    on a sad sod

    L'EPISODE

    VREMURI

era o vreme a țigărilor albaneze Apollonia

îmi erai Tailandă de zahăr ars&

    TIMES

    THE MOMENT IN A WORD

you can feel the breeze of my poem from
    both edges
but one day, father, you kept silent
    you kept silent to everybody
    you are my only line
that didn’t come back from the labyrinth.

    cuvinte carnivore
o moarte cu gâtlej de sticlă

    RUN-AWAY

    a wall always withered
    a tender wonder
    a tiring beauty
and also so poor because of its solitude
    run-away till tears
    in an incomprehensible fear
there is still the time to ride through the poem
    meat-eating words
    and a glass death

    GRINDINA DIN AMINTIRI

    mi-e casa înnorată
    ninsoare provincială
    gratii de fier
    în poemul seismic
    bătea grindina
    cade tencuiala
    de pe amintiri

    MEMORIES SHOWER

    my house is darken
    village snow
    iron bars
    in my earth-quaking poem
    a shower was blowing
    and the mortar was falling
    from my memories

    LA GRÊLE DE MES SOUVENIRS

    ma maison est assombrie
    de la neige provinciale
    les barres en fer
    dans le poème tremblant
    il grêlait
    les murs tombaient
    de mes souvenirs

    O MUCHIE DE VIAȚĂ

    deschizi poemul
    găsești viața săpată
    pe un sfârșit de iarnă
    o bodegă amară
    și seara prinsă-n menghină
    ninsori de alcool
    pe muchie de viață

    THE LIFE’S EDGE

    you open my poem
    and you find my life
    on an end of winter
    a bitter tavern
and you can also find the night
    caught on a nice
    alcohol snows
    on my life’s edge

    OGLINZI

    într-un ianuarie de staniol
    cuvântul aprinde oglinda
    ninge pe cealaltă față
    a poemului
    case târzii răstignite
    în amintire

    MIRRORS

    in a light January
the word is lighting the mirror
and it is snowing on the other side
    of my poem
    old crucified houses
    in my memory

    numele meu traversat
    de mai multe vămi
    sângele răscolit
    de un iaht obosit
    din atelierul de gramatică

    WORDS’ STUDIO

    footnote broken rime
my poem turns into a humble coat
chestnut trees are flowing through words
    and many customs
    cross my name
and my blood is stiring up
    by a tired boat
    from my grammar studio

    MY FACE

    he’s wondering through streets
    the sleeplessness builder
    on the night’s ocean
at the laws of my poem
    a tinfoil lizard
    under a fern

    MON VISAGE

    le constructeur d'insomnie
    flâne sur les rues
    sur l'océan de nuit
    sur la pelouse du poème
    sous une fougère
    il y a un lézard

    FRONTIERE

    valuri în oglindă
    și alge târzii
    o lampă tristă
    planeta de hârtie
    învie mai târziu
dincolo de gard începe stepa melancolică

    BORDERS

    waves in a mirror
    and old algae
    a sad flashlight
    a paper planet
that is getting life later on
    beyond the paling
    the melancholy steppe is lying.

    LES VAGUES DE FRONTIERES

    des vagues dans un miroir
    et des vieilles algues
    une lampe triste
    une planète en papier
ont obtenu la vie plus tard
    au-delà de la palissade
    c’est la steppe mélancolique

    FOTOGRAFIE

    la frontiera de hârtie
    trestie ploaie salcie ceață
un regat de țelină și conopidă
nopți blonde lucesc prin fotografii vechi
    e noapte atât de subțire
    încât îmi despică sternul
    și-mi ninge direct pe vertebre

    PICTURE

    at the paper borders
    reed, rain, trees, fog
A Kingdome of celery and cauliflower
white nights shinning through old pictures
    a night so thin
    that my heart aparts
    and it snows inside.

    PHOTOGRAPHIE

    au borde en papier
    roseau, pluie, saule, brouillard

    EMERGENCY ROOM

a sharp poem cutting the foggy border
and you are turning life to the Sunday to be,
    a silver oyster,
    vietnam in your sight
    in your poem’s emergency room

THE RESUMPTION OF TH E MOVIE

he was living between 8 and 16
and the next evening, he was watching matches
but he was dying between 23 and 7
sometimes, starting it over and over again
    in the morning
    at the poems window.

    FORGOTTEN LANGUAGE

    it was still winter
the season is getting darker and darker and
its snows are shiner and shiner
your name is hidden under the clouds
    we’ll stay, my darling
    on a poem’s line
    an old language
    in a schoolbook.

    PATHWAY

    life striking again
at the beginning of the century
    a tender panther
    striking again
from the motherhood in the middle of the city
    life striking again
    at the window
at the furniture and the stories we used to live together.

    PLOAIA DIN NOI

    în viața asta cu ploi
    și ninsori
    ne adăposteam în poem
un anticar prins în tomograf nemilos
ultimă loterie pentru stratul de ozon

    THE RAIN INSIDE

we were looking for shelter in a poem
because of this life full of rain
    and sorrow
    like a second-hand bookseller
like a last lottery for life.

    LA PLUIE DANS NOUS

nous cherchions l'abri dans le poème
de cette vie pleine de pluie
    et de chagrin
    comme un bouquiniste triste
comme une dernière loterie pour la vie.

    PE MAI DEPARTE

e o joi lipită de spatele iernii
gheara unui amurg îmi scotocește prin suflet
    se face pulbere dimineața
    oameni printre schije și șpan
    un tigru într-o lacrimă
cafeneaua Arizona o altă lacrimă inventată de Romulus Guga
trăită de noi de Ion Mureșan
    într-un Cluj ipotetic
    o moarte virtuală
sau la Croco și mai departe

    FURTHER ON

it’s a Thursday cleaved on the winter’s back
the jaws of a twilight searching through my soul
    morning crushing into millions
    people through bullets
    a tiger in a tear
American pubs-another tear invented by Romulus Guga
lived by us by Ion Muresan
    in a hypothetical Cluj
    a phony death
    or at Croco and further
